How can I get my 1 year old to stop looking for his pacifier?

I have 2 boys, I never had any problems with my 4 year old when it came to his pacifier (never liked it). But my youngest just made 1 year old yesterday and my partner and I agreed that we would take his pacifier a week ago. We have tried hiding it, but he would find one that we thought was lost forever. It's like he stashed them months ago, knowing that the day would someday come for him to give it up, lol. Sometimes we can get him to go an entire day without one, but when it comes time to go to bed he looks for his pacifier. So we give it to him because he falls asleep quicker. Can anyone give me any tips on how to get him to stop depending on his pacifier to put him to sleep at night, so he can be done with it all together?
