Converting to Judaism: which would be better?

With all due respect to kismet--who is correct as far as the Orthodox and some Conservative rabbis--*I* would consider you fully Jewish (I'm Reform). Yes, official affiliation is extremely important because Judaism is as much a community-based religion as it is individual. By not affiliating with a synagogue you'll be missing out on a huge part of the Jewish experience.
